2. Magic Hearts!

This fun Valentine’s Day activity lets kids practice their letters (or even numbers, shapes, or heart/sight words!) while having a blast. What’s even better? It’s a sensory experience that combines art, science, and learning all in one!

Instructions:

  1. Double up 2 paper towel sheets and cut out heart shapes.

  2. Use a Sharpie to write letters on half of the hearts. Want to make it extra challenging? Try sight words, numbers, or shapes!

  3. Cover the lettered hearts with the blank ones for a surprise reveal.

  4. Give your child colored water and an eye dropper to drop a dot on the hearts—watch as the letters magically appear! While they’re revealing the letters, encourage them to practice identifying their sounds and tracing the letter with their fingers.

4. Crystal Heart Activity

Add a little science onto your Valentine’s Day activity list! Not only will your kids love watching these crystals form, but they’ll be amazed by the beautiful end result!

Instructions:

  1. Shape a pipe cleaner into a heart shape.

  2. Add a string to the pipe cleaner and tie it to a straw (this will help it hang in the jar).

  3. Add boiling water to a jar (mason jars work great!).

  4. Add 6 tablespoons of borax and stir until it dissolves.

  5. Add food coloring to your mixture for a fun pop of color!

  6. Lay your straw over the jar so that the pipe cleaner heart is fully submerged in the solution.

  7. Let it sit for 24 hours. 

  8. After 24 hours, carefully remove your pipe cleaner heart to reveal the stunning crystal formation!

5. Valentine’s Day Sensory Bag

This is a quick and easy activity for littles to enjoy and can probably be made with materials you already have in the house! A sensory bag is not only fun but also soothing and calming for kids and strengthens fine motor skills. 

Instructions:

  1. Fill a resealable plastic bag with a few tablespoons of hair gel (or clear lotion for a smoother feel).

  2. Add some red or pink glitter, small foam heart shapes, and even a few Valentine-themed stickers.

  3. Seal the bag tightly and tape the edges to ensure it doesn't pop open.

  4. Let your little one play and squish! They can practice tracing shapes, letters, or just enjoy the tactile experience.
