March is Reading Month Home Activities

March is National Reading Month, and what better time to embrace reading in your home! Celebrating the joy of reading and inspiring a love for books is fun for children of all ages. It’s a great reminder that reading isn’t just an academic activity or something they “need” to do for school. Introducing children to all different types of books and finding topics they are interested in, and then finding ways to make reading fun and encouraged at home are keys to setting your child up for lifelong learning! Whether your child is just beginning to explore the world of words or is already an avid reader, creating opportunities to read together can have a profound impact on their literacy and even emotional growth. We're here with a plethora of activities to support this process and make reading exciting this month with our easy, no-prep, printable National Reading Month Activities packet! Let's explore some of the fun waiting inside!

Reading Logs

Our packet includes a variety of reading logs to suit your child’s interests and keep reading fun! One type allows your child to list the books they’ve read, along with the authors and a rating for each one, making it easy to track their progress and reflect on their favorite reads! The other type features book cutouts that your child can color and design to look like the books they've read. These creative cutouts can then be strung together to create a garland or stapled together to form a book!

Book-a-Day Tracker

A fun way to visualize reading progress! Each day, your child colors an apple with a number on it, building excitement and seeing how far they’ve come. Help early learners build fine motor skills while coloring by trying Left and Right Handed Crayons or Bear Finger Crayons!

Tell Me a Story Sequencing Activity

This activity encourages your child to practice storytelling by writing (or telling you) the parts of a book (First, Next, Last)! It also helps your child develop sequencing and comprehension skills which are super important preschool and kindergarten skills.

Book Reviews

After reading, your child can write their own book review to share their thoughts on the story, characters, and their favorite moments! This is not only fun but also helps early readers build their comprehension skills and promotes deeper thought!
