The Fourth of July has a way of slowing things down in the best way. The backyard is full of laughter, popsicles are melting faster than anyone can eat them, and little ones are counting down the minutes until fireworks.
The best part? Kids don't need elaborate plans or expensive supplies to make the day feel special. Some of the sweetest memories come from simple activities you can pull together with things you already have at home.
Whether you're spending the day at home, heading to a family barbecue, or squeezing in a little learning before the celebrations begin, these easy Fourth of July activities are perfect for making the most of your summer together.

5 Easy 4th of July Activities for Kids
1. Make Red, White & Blue Homemade Popsicles
Nothing says summer quite like homemade popsicles!
This easy recipe doubles as a fun kitchen activity and a refreshing afternoon treat.

You'll Need:
-
Strawberries
-
Blueberries
-
Vanilla Greek yogurt
-
Honey (optional)
-
Popsicle molds or small paper cups
-
Popsicle sticks
How to Make Them:
-
Blend the strawberries until smooth.
-
Fill the molds about one-third full and freeze for about 30 minutes.
-
Add a layer of vanilla yogurt and freeze again.
-
Blend the blueberries and add the final layer.
-
Freeze until solid.
The only thing better than making homemade popsicles? Eating them together outside on a sunny summer day!
2. Create Fireworks in a Jar
This colorful science activity feels a little like magic.

You'll Need:
-
A clear glass or jar
-
Warm water
-
Vegetable oil
-
Food coloring
-
A small bowl
-
Fork
What to Do:
Fill the jar with warm water. In a separate bowl, mix a few tablespoons of oil with several drops of red and blue food coloring. Gently pour the mixture into the jar and watch as the colors slowly fall through the oil and burst into the water like tiny fireworks.
It's quick, mess-free, and a fun way to sneak a little science into the holiday!
3. Backyard Patriotic Scavenger Hunt
Kids love having a mission!
Hide everyday items around the yard or house and send them off with a little checklist.
See if they can find:
-
Something red
-
Something blue
-
Something white
-
A flower
-
A feather
-
A smooth rock
-
A flag
-
Something that makes noise
-
Something that flies
-
Something shaped like a star
You can even let older siblings create clues for younger ones to solve to involve everyone in the fun!
4. Make Reusable Sponge Splashers
Skip the balloons and make reusable sponge splashers instead!

You'll Need:
-
Kitchen sponges
-
Rubber bands or string
-
Scissors
Cut several sponges into strips, stack them together, and secure the middle with a rubber band. Dip them in water and they're ready for endless backyard fun.
No tiny balloon pieces to clean up, and you can reuse them all summer long!
5. Keep Summer Learning Going with the Bridge to Series

Holiday fun and learning can absolutely go together (especially with our themed activities in each book!)
If you're looking for a simple way to keep skills fresh this summer, the Bridge to Series was designed with busy families in mind.
Instead of long workbook sessions, children complete just three engaging activities a day that naturally fit into real summer routines. Along the way they'll practice reading, writing, math, STEM, crafts, handwriting, critical thinking, and more—all through activities that feel fun instead of overwhelming.
It's an easy way to build confidence before the new school year while still leaving plenty of time for popsicles, splash pads, family adventures, and Fourth of July celebrations.
