That’s why we LOVE recipes that double as easy activities and healthy-ish snacks! Whether you need something quick before heading back outside, a way to cool off indoors, or just a little hands-on fun to pass the time, these kid-friendly summer snacks totally deliver. Plus, these summer snack recipes for kids are delicious and your kids will actually want to eat them!
Let’s dive into our favorite snack recipes that are fun to make, refreshing to eat, and full of sneaky nutrients!
Summer Snack Recipes for Kids
1. Chocolate-Covered Bananas
A cool, creamy treat that feels like dessert without the sugar overload!
This one is perfect for a make-ahead snack that lives in the freezer until you’re ready. It’s super simple, and your kids will love helping dunk and decorate.
What you need:
-
Bananas
-
Chocolate chips (semi-sweet, dark, or dairy-free)
-
Coconut oil (optional, to smooth the chocolate)
-
Popsicle sticks or skewers
-
Toppings: sprinkles, chopped nuts, shredded coconut, or crushed cereal
Instructions:
Peel and slice your bananas in half, then insert a popsicle stick into each half. Freeze for at least 30 minutes. While they’re chilling, melt your chocolate chips (and a teaspoon of coconut oil if using) in the microwave in 30-second intervals. Dip the frozen bananas into the chocolate and roll in your favorite toppings! Lay on a parchment-lined tray and pop back in the freezer until set. Then your frozen sweet treats are ready for whenever you want them!
2. Fruit Pizza
A sweet twist on a summer classic!
This refreshing treat packs all the benefits: it’s healthy, interactive, and super fun to customize. Think of it as snack time + art class + a little culinary creativity all rolled into one.
What you need:
-
A whole watermelon (or a large slice)
-
Any fruit you want for “toppings”: banana slices, blueberries, raspberries, kiwi, pineapple, etc.
-
(Optional) Coconut flakes for your “parmesan cheese”
Instructions:
Slice your watermelon into a big round circle like a pizza pie—then cut it into 8 “slices.” Set out bowls of toppings and let your kids decorate each slice however they like! Banana slices make perfect “pepperoni,” and berries add a fun pop of color. When you’re done decorating, sprinkle on coconut flakes as a cheesy finishing touch. It’s messy, silly, and totally snack-worthy!
3. Favorite Fruit Popsicles
No added sugar, just sweet summer vibes!
These popsicles are as fun to make as they are to eat and you get full control over the ingredients! Let your little one help blend, pour, and taste test!
What you need:
-
Your favorite fruits (strawberries, mango, pineapple, blueberries, kiwi—anything goes)
-
A splash of orange juice, coconut water, or even lemonade
-
Popsicle molds or small paper cups + popsicle sticks
Instructions:
Add your fruits and liquid into a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into molds and insert sticks. Freeze for 4–6 hours or overnight. You can also add sliced fruit to the molds before pouring for extra texture and color. Pro tip: make a few flavor combos and let your kids “vote” for the winner!
