Real flowers sticking out of a cardboard vase

What You'll Need

- A piece of sturdy cardboard (cutting off a piece from a recent delivery box works great!)

- Markers to draw a vase

  • Something to poke holes (think pencil or a drill!)

The Steps

1. Create Your Vase:

To begin with, draw a vase on the cardboard. This presents a fantastic opportunity to engage your kids and let their imaginations soar as they add their personal touches of decoration to the vase.

2. Prepare the Vase:

Next, use a pencil or hole punch to create small holes along the top of the vase. These holes will serve as where your children can arrange their flowers.

3. Go on a Flower Walk:

Now, it's time for the real adventure! Head out to your yard, a nearby park, or even a nature trail. Embrace the fresh air and encourage your children to collect flowers they find along the way. This is a great way to explore different types of flowers, spark conversations about the outdoors, and enjoy the beauty of nature.

4. Arrange the Flowers:

Finally, once you’ve gathered a collection of beautiful blooms, help your kiddos insert the flowers into the holes on the cardboard vase. Watch as their faces light up when they see their very own floral masterpiece come to life!

Why We Love This Flower Walk Activity

Not only is the Flower Walk Activity a fun and free way to spend time outside, but it also helps develop your child's gross motor skills as they explore and collect flowers. Fitting the flower stems into the cardboard vase holes is an extra special fine motor challenge!  Plus, it fosters a love for nature and provides a wonderful opportunity for family bonding.
